The Hahndorf Old Mill played host to what has been described as Australia’s favourite and most successful Country group, The McClymonts.
Local girl Taylor Pfeiffer kicked off the night with a short, but sweet opening set. Taylor is known as ‘The Banjo Girl’ but this label somewhat overlooks her talent as a singer. Her confident and warm manner endures her to the crowd and the applause she received after each song was well deserved. The crowd thoroughly enjoyed her yodeling and her rendition of Fleetwood Macs ‘Dreams’ was exceptionally well done.
The three McClymont sisters; Brooke, Sam and Mollie have returned to the road after a year. They said they were ready to kick it up in style and they sure didn’t disappoint.
This tour, “Like we used to” is named after one of their current smash hits, which along with 2 other great tracks from their current “Endless” album “House” and “Don’t wish it all away” is enjoying tremendous success. “Endless” debuted at #1 Country and #3 ARIA All-Genre Album on its release. Add to that success, three awards at the 2018 Golden Guitar Awards including the coveted Album of the Year and Group of the Year at the CMC Awards proves the girls have not been resting on their laurels during this last year.
Their high energy set started with a countdown from 10, when the count reached zero the crowd erupted as the stage lights lit and the three sisters launched into their first song. It was a start that promised much, and the McClymonts delivered everything that was promised.
Backed by their 3-piece backing band, they took us on a journey of some of their most successful hits, interspersed with a couple of covers. Fleetwood Macs “Little Lies” was exceptional, and The Bellamy brothers “Let your love flow” showcased the fantastic harmonies these three girls are capable of.
Brooke McClymonts powerful voice filled the large room and her energy more than filled the stage. The capacity crowd of 400 were treated to hits such as “Wrapped up good”, “Forever begins tonight”, “Don’t wish it all away”, and “Kick it up”.
The sheer energy, powerful vocals and superb, tight harmonies of this band is something one needs to experience first hand, to be able to fully understand why The McClymonts receive the accolades they do.
From the die-hard faithful fans who attend every McClymont gig, to the people who just wanted to see the girls perform again and enjoy a meal, to the newbies who had never been to a McClymont gig before. Everyone left this concert with a big smile on their face
These girls are justifiably classed as Australia’s favourite and most successful country group.
